Based in Cardiff, Liminal Press is a website and print journal dedicated to showcasing unique voices and perspectives from Wales and beyond.

Submissions are welcome as open, journal and competition entries. We also welcome entries from our global walk and write. All submission types are described below.

You can send your work via our submissions page by simply selecting the type of submission you want to send. Upload your file, complete the required details and hit send. Done!

Open Submissions

Submissions are open all year round.

Open submissions are free, and the most compelling, resonant and accomplished will be considered for publication online on a rolling basis. Exceptional writing will also be considered for the print journal.

Open submissions are free but if you would like detailed feedback for your work then we can provide this for an additional fee.

Journal Submissions

The print journal submissions window opens twice per year when we invite writers to submit pieces on a specific theme or concept. We publish a winter issue and a summer issue. Both are distributed as a digital version and in print, stocked at selected and independent bookshops all over Wales and England.

Journal submission windows remain open for a full month throughout April and October.

Journal submissions are free but if you would like detailed feedback for your work then we can offer this for an additional fee.

Competition Submissions

We run two competitions per year when we invite writers to submit pieces on a theme or concept. We work with judges to decide an overall winner, two runners up and up to three honourable mentions.

Competition submissions cost £8 and if the entrant would like detailed feedback then this can also be provided for an additional fee.

  • Winner - £150

  • Runner up 1 - £50

  • Runner up 2 - £50

  • Honourable mentions

As well as cash prizes the winning entrant will be published both online and in print.

Global Walk and Write

A shared moment. A thousand different places. One creative ritual.

The Liminal Press Global Walk & Write is a simple idea with a wide horizon: on the same day, people around the world step outside, walk through their local streets, parks, fields, coastlines and corners and write about what they notice. The smells, the textures, the weather, the strangers, the sounds and the small details that anchor us to place.

Writers are asked to step out for 30-60 minutes and write about place. They then polish up their observations and have a week to submit up to 500 words.

We gather these pieces into a global snapshot: a map of sensory impressions, fragments of experience, and glimpses into the edges of everyday life. A mosaic of voices, each rooted in their own landscape.

This is not a competition. It is free to send entries within the specified window.

Whether you’re walking in Cardiff or Kyoto, Nairobi or New York, Reykjavík or Rio your piece becomes one dot on a growing constellation of human experience.

We welcome writing in any language. We welcome all levels of experience. We welcome the slightly off‑centre, the introspective, the curious, the observant.

Join us. Step outside. Notice something. Write from the threshold.
